Property Details

A lovely detached cottage with history, character and charming original features. The property dates back to the 17th/18th century and is believed to be the toll keepers cottage for Upton-upon-Severn, used for taking the toll from traders needing access to rivers and barges on the river Severn.

Internally, reception room currently used as a dining room with original quarry tiles, beams and a wonderful Rayburn stove. To the right hand side of the house, a spacious sitting room that has been lovingly restored by the current owners. A delightful inglenook fireplace with log burner inset, period brick surround and original slate hearth. Beautifully restored teak parquet flooring and a window to the front. The kitchen sits at the rear of the property and offers a great outlook to the garden. The kitchen could benefit from updating but offers great potential to any new owner, either by replacement or extension. A utility room and downstairs shower room completes the ground floor. To the first floor, two double bedrooms, master having refurbished original wooden floorboards, and a single bedroom or ideal home office.

The property sits on a lovely plot and has a fantastic large and spacious garden with mature apple, pear and plum trees. The drive to the side of the property leads to the rear garden up to a large detached double garage and additional off road parking. The property has ample room to extend which would not compromise the large garden. The current owners have approved plans to extend the house taking it from three bedrooms to a five bedroom house with a large master suite, spacious bedrooms and a large open kitchen/dining/living space. Planning reference: M/22/00420/CLPU

Overall, a great family home with huge potential on fantastic plot.

VENDOR COMMENTS
We’ve thoroughly enjoyed living in Shirley Cottage for the past 6 years. Taking time to renovate and bring the cottage back to some of its former glory. Seeing the living room transform into a cosy space, especially on winter nights with the log burner burning.

We’ve really enjoyed our garden. Spending days with friends and family, barbecue on and kids playing are some of our most favourite times.

And of course it becoming our family home, as our family has grown, the house has adapted and changed to accommodate.

The property is in a fantastic location within waking distance of the GP surgery, nursery, primary school, shops, bars and restaurants in town. Close proximity to the Three Counties Showground and Malvern.

Upton-upon-Severn is an historic riverside town serving a wide rural catchment area with a thriving tourist industry, due to hosting many well known events, such as the annual music, jazz and folk and river festivals. The town is approximately 8 miles from Malvern, 10 miles from Worcester and 6 miles from Tewkesbury. Access to Junction 1 of the M50 is approximately 3 miles distant which links to the M5 motorway. There are mainline railway stations located at both Worcester and Malvern.
